Dieci Fuochi

Nel 1099 un ragazzo di quattordici anni partì da Vercelli per Santiago. Un fabbro che lo ospitò gli forgiò un ferro da penitenza, così pesante che riusciva appena a trascinarlo. Diretto poi a Gerusalemme, fu aggredito dai briganti e capì che il suo posto era qui, sulle montagne d'Irpinia. Il pellegrino porta un bastone, e il bastone porta i segni della strada: dieci luoghi, dieci fuochi.

In 1099 a fourteen-year-old boy left Vercelli for Santiago. A blacksmith who gave him lodging forged him an iron for penance, so heavy he could barely drag it. Later, bound for Jerusalem, he was attacked by robbers and understood that his place was here, in the mountains of Irpinia. The pilgrim carries a staff, and the staff carries the marks of the road: ten places, ten fires.
